Speaking to teenagers all these years, I have heard some horrible and heroic stories come from their mouths. I have just finished five weekends in a row of winter retreats that have taken me from Otisville Michigan to the Rocky Mountains. On these weekends, my theme was simply, Trusting God. Over these retreats I have once again heard many stories come from these precious lives. I wanted to share just a few of them with you and ask if you would join me in prayer on their behalf.
David came to me on a Saturday night with a tremendous excitement in his voice. “Mr. Ray, could I please talk to you”. He explained to me that he has had cancer twice in his life. (Later, one of his youth leaders told me more of his miraculous story and that David had to be fed by a tube, if I’m remembering correctly, for six months.) David said to me, “When I had my cancer, I knew God was out there somewhere, but tonight, I met Him personally!” He was so excited to tell me those amazing words, “I gave my life to Jesus tonight!” Amazing.
Robin is a beautiful Christian girl (you can see for yourself by the photos) who I met while playing cards, on a Saturday afternoon. After we got done playing, she told me a little about her story. Robin has lived in a wheel chair for the last three years. She was diagnosed with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy. While spending time with her you can’t help but think what a brave young woman she is. She shared with me that she has known of some people lately, with her illness, who have died. Sunday morning she shared with me that she prayed the night before. She asked God to help her to not be afraid and to trust God with her fears. Amazing.
Eight months ago, Charnee found her thirteen year old brother dead. He somehow died in his sleep, the doctors still can’t explain what happened. Their whole youth group is still grieving the loss of this precious young man who, I am told, was on fire for Jesus. Charnee, also a Christian, told me that she prayed Saturday night. She told me that she was beginning to doubt God because of the loss of her brother, but now she understands that she can trust God through the tough times of her life. Amazing.
There are so many other stories I could tell you. Thank you for your prayers, support and love. Thank you for investing in the lives of these teenagers. Thank you God for touching their lives.
